Cruise Trip Day 2 Touring San Juan

Today we toured San Juan Old Town. It was so neat. The rain here is crazy. It just sparatically downpours for about 3-5 minutes and then is done for a few hours then it comes again. The wind is constant though. :\ Makes for some crazy hair pictures. We toured San Cristobal Fort, the largest Spanish fortification ever built. We were going through the streets of Old San Juan when one of the down pours came. An incredibly nice man and woman opened their door to us and insisted we come in out of the rain. (Those who didn't were completely soaked.) Their house was so interesting-- I loved it. It was so simple. Just a simple couch and chair in a small area with a TV and coffee table. Take one step up in the same area and you're in the kitchen. Then there is a tight winding staircase to the bedrooms up stairs. All the floors were tile--I'd imagine because of all the water; rain and hurricanes. The couple was so nice; the man was emphatic that he LOVED the U.S. This was one thing that bugged me about San Juan. They want to obtain statehood with the U.S. so many want to make sure that Americans know they love us and they have no ill feelings toward us. They also want Americans to know how much "like" them they are. There are many others who don't want to change their culture to conform to something else and they're hold tight to their roots. I think it's so sad that this is how it is. To me it's their uniqueness that makes them more desirable as a state, but I'm clearly no politician. One more thing I loved about this place were the bricked streets. The bricks were made from the sludge that was on top when they were making cannon balls. Oh, one more thing-- the beach and view right outside our hotel was amazing(see the above picture of Becky in the hammock).
