Camp Be*YOU*Tiful Kick-off

I'm the camp director for our ward this year and tonight we had our camp kick-off.  Basically we introduced the girls to the theme of the camp and then did a little calendaring and passing off some requirements for what to do in various emergency situations.  The girls and leaders did a cute skit that sort of debunked the myth that you're cool if you like everything your friends, or boys like and depicted that you're much more "cool" if you are just being yourself.  It was a lot of fun to watch. :)  My favorite part though was the treat.  We had a caramel apple bar.  The apple slices were on skewers and the the girls had the choice of caramel, white chocolate, and milk chocolate to drizzle over the apples and then there were toppings galore: peanut pieces, mini-M&Ms, cinnamon hearts, sprinkles, mini-marshmallows, cinnamon sugar, crushed graham crackers, and coconut.  After the girls spent their time making their apples to their liking we asked them if they wanted to switch.  They all wanted their own because they like different things than what was on the other apples.  This was the first of many moments that we will be discussing that everyone likes different things and it is OK!  We also pointed out how much happier you are when you are doing/enjoying what you like and not what others like just because you want them to think you like it too.  I really hope the girls leave camp this summer with a deep understanding that their beauty shines when they are being themselves and not their best version of someone else.
