Maple Grove Campout Summary and Pictures from the 1st Night

We were going to have our Brown Bryce Canyon trip this weekend but since my Mom can't leave my dad we opted to just camp at Maple Grove a couple days and then go see Grandma and Grandpa for a couple days. We got there on Thursday night, set up camp, and then cooked hot dogs and smores(new discovery Chocolate marshmallows--yum even better with smores). The next day we went hiking for Geocaches and found out there are waterfalls by Maple Grove. That may just be neat to some but to us we were blown away. Darryl spent a good portion of his life hiking to Maple Grove and around it and he didn't even know about the waterfalls. On the hike we saw a mother bird who looked like a rock. She looked deformed but she flew away and we found that the feathers on the bottom of her didn't belong to her-- they were her two babies. Cole loves birds so it was fun to show them to him. That is one of the few things he'll say, "Bir, bir, bir." We hiked back and Darryl and Clint went fishing in the creek. Not much luck but it's still good times. Then we went and played on the rope swings. The water was ice cold so Darryl froze his legs and feet helping the boys. I never got a great picture of his reaction to the cold though. :) That night we made pita pizzas and had a great fire so we all told stories. They boys came up with some great ones-- I should have written them down. The next day we packed up camp and then biked around geocaching some more. The boys spent a lot of the afternoon riding down the hill on their bikes with the neighbor campers kids. I loved making friends at the camp grounds when we'd camp at Fishlake. Good times. This was such a fun trip. It was so nice to just be laid back and not be rushed to keep a schedule and just be able to take in the outdoors--love it! Sad that they have the hike to the "eye" closed because someone got seriously hurt or died a while back. When we had enough on Saturday we packed up and headed over to Aurora to spend some time with Mom and Dad.
