Today we went to the Bund. It is a waterfront park. All along the Bund are 52 buildings that other countries have built for China. It was so neat to see all the different styles from each country. Looking across the water at the Bund you can see this TV tower called the Oriental Pearl Tower. In the 3 spheres there are offices, a restaurant, and a mall.
We went to the silk rug factory today. That was such a neat art to watch. One large living room rug will take them about 2 years to finish. Ugh! I can't imagine going to work everyday for hours and hours and not having a finished product for 2 years!
We spent the afternoon in the City God Temple area, also called Shanghai "China Town." There are shops and more shops. Many of them had similar items. We were kind of tired of shopping but it was fun just to walk around and see what there was to see. For dinner we went to the 4th floor of a bank at a nice restaurant. The chicken threw me because it looked like a plucked chicken with bumpy skin. Eeeeewww. I didn't partake of that or the rubbery white noodle thingys.
Tonight most of the group went to another acrobat show but we decided to skip it and not be disappointed. We hung out at the hotel with Brendan and Karen and got ice cream at a shop next to our hotel. We were trying to find out how much things cost but the ladies didn't understand us. We knew that but we still kept trying different ways to ask our question. Finally realized they were understanding us as much as we were understanding them and so we just put the ice cream on the counter and had her ring it up. Hmmm what an idea! This is a picture of Brendan and Karen. Brendan was a great model of how to wear your backpack in China. Our guide said, "If it is on your front it belongs to you, if it is on your back it could belong to someone else." We were constantly warned of pickpockets.
